Greenwood, Arin. “Nuisance Or Necessity? ADA Suit May Overturn Pit-Bull Bans.” ABA Journal 97.9 (2011): 18. Academic Search Complete. Web. 11 Oct. 2012.
In this article, Greenwood tells of a situation in Denver, Colorado, in which a lawsuit was filed because of people claiming that the law in the city banning all pit bulls violated the ADA. Allen Grider, a Vietnam veteran, who is suffering from PTSD, claims his pit bull is a service dog and helps him cope with PTSD and he needs her, but she was taken away from him after the law was put into effect. After a long and grueling battle in court, it was ruled that breed banning laws cannot apply to service dogs. After some heated debates and long court sessions, Precious, Allen Grider’s dog, was finally released back to him and continues to serve and help him cope with his disorder. I plan to use this article to show the effects that breed banning laws can have on citizens

Campbell, Dana M. “Pit Bull Bans: The State Of Breed-Specific Legislation.” Gpsolo 26.5 (2009): 36-41. Academic Search Complete. Web. 11 Oct. 2012.
In this article, Campbell brings light to a situation not many people have heard, when animal control officers in Kansas City, took Mike and Amy Johnson’s dog, Niko, for violating the city’s ban against sheltering pit bulls, it took eight months of legal disputing and a DNA test on Niko before the city agreed with what the Johnsons and their paperwork had been saying all along, Niko was a boxer mix. During that time Niko waited in an animal control kennel, separated from his family, losing weight and fur, and picking up a cough. Dana Campbell goes on to explain that this case provides a good explanation of the illustration of many of the controversies currently surrounding the topic of “breed” bans, also know as “pit bull bans” or “breed-specific legislation.” I will use this article to address the different controversies of breed specific laws.

Momoh, Tobi. “When pit bulls attack.” New York Amsterdam News 10 July 2008: 17. Academic Search Complete. Web. 11 Oct. 2012.
In this article, Momoh examines a recent attack in New York City that has left some citizens uneasy, Barron, who lives in the area where the attack took place, told a news company, “I personally think pit bulls and other vicious dogs such as rottweilers should be banned from our city. Many people may say it is not the animal, but it is how the dog owner raises the dog. But from the harm inflicted on children like Kamar Reynolds, we see the dangerous characteristics these dogs possess. I do not know if there is legislation about the protection of these wild dogs, but I strongly feel we should keep them off our city streets.” Momoh goes on to investigate that people are really just not satisfied with the fact the city is doing what they feel is their best to help protect them in harmful situations and that owning a pit bull is like owning a bus or kitchen knife, all of them are intended for good but can cause harm if not cared for in the right hands. I will use this article to investigate the reasons and causes behind creating breed specific bans.
