Conflicts

In Tim O’Brien’s novel, “The Things They Carried,” the main character experiences many types of conflicts. He goes through man vs. self when he has to decide if he should go to war, or escape and run away to Canada. Also, he faces man vs. society conflict because when deciding if he should run to Canada or not, he considers the thoughts that his town and neighbors would have of him if he ran. He must also deal with man vs. man conflict when he’s fighting against enemies at war. He deals with the man vs. nature conflict as well because he has to survive in a land he is unfamiliar with. My favorite scene so far in this novel would probably be when Lieutenant Cross decided to burn all of his letters from Martha, I chose this scene because it reminds me of a scene from one of my favorite books and movies, Dear John.
